Camp Quest - Beat PZ!

Organized by Camp Quest

$5,000 Matching for Last Few Hours!
This contest rolls into the record books at 2pm today. For these last few hours The Stiefel Freethought Foundation has pledged a matching offer of up to $5,000 per team! The Stiefel Foundation will match dollar for dollar everything this team raises above the current value of $11,681.33, up to $16,681.33.

The Stiefel Foundation didn't want to take sides though, so they are also making the same matching offer to Team PZ.

Teams basically tied with 9 hours to go!
Our intrepid blogger competitors have raised more than $20,000 for Camp Quest over the last month. And now, their contest looks to be a photo finish! As of 2:49pm eastern Team Underdog is ahead by $63.

This may be due to some tactical changes on the part of Team PZ. PZ now claims that he wins either way. We're not so sure about that, but Camp Quest definitely wins either way.

Thank you thank you thank you to all of the donors who have given to support Team Underdog or Team PZ, and thank you thank you thank you to all of the bloggers and others who have promoted this contest!
Halfway through contest Team Underdog gains more members!
We are about halfway through the PZ Myers vs. Team Underdog blogger fundraising contest for Camp Quest, and the battle rages on! PZ is still ahead, but Team Underdog is strategizing for their late-game comeback. A few quick highlights:

1. Hemant Mehta, the Friendly Atheist, started a rumor that PZ would shave his beard if Team Underdog won. PZ turned the tables by offering to shave his beard if he won, effectively sowing confusion among those who wanted to shave vs. save PZ's beard.
2. Team Underdog, adopting the moniker of Team Awesome, went on a recruiting spree and gained several more members. The current membership of Team Awesome is:
Greta Christina, Greta Christina's Blog
Hemant Mehta, The Friendly Atheist
Jen McCreight, Blag Hag
JT Eberhard, Atheism Resource & his new blog WWJTD
Adam Lee, Daylight Atheism
The Chaplain, An Apostate's Chapel
Digital Cuttlefish, at The Digital Cuttlefish
Matt Dillahunty, of The Atheist Experience
C.L. Hanson, of Letters from a broad
Sikivu Hutchinson, of Black Skeptics Group

3. We're all having fun watching the bloggers compete, but on a more serious note, thank you to all of the bloggers, and everyone who made a contribution to either side. You are making a real difference in the lives of children from freethinking families. So far almost 500 people have contributed during this challenge. The outpouring of support from all over the world means a lot to us at Camp Quest. Thank you all so much!
Round Two! Blogger Contest Continues.
Blogger Competition Round II is underway!

So, the first round went to PZ... it only took him and his hordes of generous followers 13 hours and 14 minutes to reach the $5,000 goal.

Team Underdog, started to catch up though after a slower start, and they have demanded a rematch. Greta, Hemant, Jen, and JT, have returned with reinforcements. Adam Lee of Daylight Atheism will be joining their forces.

Team Underdog also welcomes additional reinforcements to join their side. Simply get the ChipIn Widget from the sidebar, and post it to your own blog. Feel free to copy the contest information and info about Camp Quest from this page. Let us know if you join in!

Round Two Rules: Whichever team raises the most money by the original June 1 deadline will win round two, and will be the ultimate rock stars of the atheist blogosphere.

(And psst... Hemant said that PZ would shave his beard if he lost.)
Awesome Atheist Bloggers Compete to Support Camp Quest!
Five awesome atheist bloggers are competing to see who can raise the most money to support Camp Quest!

Since one of those bloggers is the indomitable PZ Myers of Pharyngula, we have made two teams in order to make this competition more fair.

Team 1: Greta Christina of Greta Christina's Blog, Hemant Mehta of Friendly Atheist, Jen McCreight of Blag Hag, and JT Eberhard of Zerowing21.

Team 2: PZ Myers of Pharyngula.

The first team to raise $5,000 for Camp Quest, or the team that has raised the most by June 1, 2011 will win!

What will the winning team receive? Bragging rights. Pure and simple.

You can help your favorite team win by donating through ChipIn to support the team of your choice. Early reports think PZ has this sewn up, so if you like underdogs, give to this ChipIn and help his competition. Or you can make help make the pharyngulation complete by supporting PZ's ChipIn.

All contestants and contributors receive: the knowledge that they have supported a fantastic program for freethinking families and their children.

Read more in the post below about why you should support Camp Quest!

Why Support Camp Quest?
The nontheist community offers many programs for adults, but very few for children. To provide a future for our values we need to provide freethinking families with a place for their kids to find community, develop critical thinking skills, and learn ethics and values. Fortunately, that is what Camp Quest is all about. Well, that, and all of the summer camp fun that you can pack into a week.

Fun, Friends, & Freethought

Camp Quest builds a community for children and teenagers from atheist, agnostic, humanist and other freethinking families. We provide campers a place to explore their developing worldviews, ask questions, and make friends in an environment supportive of critical thinking and skepticism. Camp Quest is open to campers from all backgrounds. We encourage campers to think for themselves, be comfortable with who they are, and engage respectfully with people who have different views.

Sound good? You can get involved! Camp Quest needs support from a broad community of freethinkers to be successful. Donate through this ChipIn to help us make the Camp Quest experience available to more campers!

Instead of me telling you more about why Camp Quest is a great experience for kids, I want to share some of what the campers themselves say. When we asked them, "What have you learned at Camp Quest 2010?" campers replied:

"Camp Quest helps me remember that there are other people my age who think like I do."

"To be kind to others of different beliefs."

"...to be a leader, about photography, different plants, about the oil spill, and many other things."

"That it's okay to be myself."

"how to make really good friends in just a week."

"I've learned how to question things better."

"That it's okay to be an atheist."

"So many things I can't even count."

Pretty amazing, right? Help us make that happen for more kids. Camp Quest is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. Donations are tax deductible. If you have any questions about making a donation, please don't hesitate to contact us.
